SpreadSite guide

Practical instructions for creating a site, connecting a spreadsheet, reordering sections, publishing updates, using images and custom domains, and managing your account.

1Create a site in the dashboard
2Initialize the spreadsheet
3Enter credentials and sync

1. What is SpreadSite?

SpreadSite is a no-code tool for creating and managing a website with Google Sheets.

What no-code means

No-code means you can use the service without programming or web-production expertise. Enter website copy, image links, button labels, and other content in a spreadsheet, then sync it to your site.

Why it works for beginners

Choose from templates instead of designing a layout from scratch. Start with sample data, understand the overall structure, then replace only the copy and images you need.

Basic workflow

Create a site in the dashboard, edit its content in Google Sheets, and sync it through the SpreadSite add-on. The same workflow is used for updates after publishing.

Recommended devices

You can view sites and check the dashboard on a phone, but we recommend a desktop browser for Google Sheets add-on operations. The add-on menu may not be available in the iPad or phone Sheets app.

2. What SpreadSite can do

Create and update a website with the familiar workflow of editing a spreadsheet.

Manage content in a spreadsheet

Manage website copy, links, image URLs, and SEO settings in Google Sheets. You can update the site like a table without learning a CMS.

No design expertise required

Each section includes templates. Choose templates in Configuration to change the navigation, header, main content, cards, bottom section, footer, and more.

Reorder sections

Move rows in Configuration to reorder Top, Main, Cards, Access, Bottom, and Contact. Navigation, Header, and Footer stay in fixed positions to preserve the page structure.

Manual and automatic sync

Send spreadsheet content to the site through the SpreadSite add-on. Sync manually, or enable automatic sync so edits are sent after changes. Updates may take a few seconds.

Responsive design

Templates are designed to work on desktop and mobile. For long copy or large images, check the published result on a phone as well.

Use images

Paste image URLs into the spreadsheet to display them. Pro users can upload images through SpreadSite and paste the resulting URLs. Uploads are optimized as WebP, and HEIC images are converted automatically.

Custom domains

Sites normally publish at sitename.spread-site.com. Pro users can connect a custom domain. DNS changes can take time to propagate.

SEO and social previews

Configure the SEO title, description, and icon in Settings. These values are also used for social previews.

3. Initial setup

Detailed steps from account creation to your first published site. The dashboard setup guide and video cover the same workflow.

Sign up or sign in

Sign in to SpreadSite, then create a site from the dashboard. You can begin on the Free plan.

Choose a site name

The site name becomes part of its URL. For example, example publishes at example.spread-site.com. Use 3–20 lowercase letters, numbers, or hyphens; a hyphen cannot be first or last.

Create the site in your dashboard

Enter a site name on the new-site page. After creation, the detail page shows its URL, site name, access token, and setup guide.

Install the SpreadSite add-on

Install SpreadSite from Google Workspace Marketplace. It will then appear under Extensions in Google Sheets.

Create a spreadsheet

Create a new Google spreadsheet. An existing file can work, but a new spreadsheet is easier for the first setup.

Initialize a template

Open Extensions > SpreadSite and initialize a template. A sample close to your industry makes the structure easier to understand. Initialization rebuilds sheets with sample content, so take care if the file already contains data.

Enter the site name and access token

After initialization, enter the dashboard site name in B1 and access token in B2 of Authentication. The token authorizes site updates and must not be shared.

Sync content

Choose Extensions > SpreadSite > Sync all sheets. When it completes, open the site URL and confirm the content is visible.

Enable automatic sync

Optionally choose Extensions > SpreadSite > Enable automatic sync. Edits will then be sent automatically. You can disable it while preparing larger unpublished changes.

Check the site

Open the URL shown in the dashboard or Configuration sheet. If a recent sync is not visible, wait a few seconds and reload the browser.

4. Using the dashboard

Create sites, review details, share links, manage images, and manage your plan from the dashboard.

View your sites

The dashboard lists existing sites with their public URLs, SEO titles, and descriptions. Select a site card to open its detail page.

Create another site

Choose Create a new site and enter its name. The Free plan includes one site and Pro includes up to three. Ultra details will be announced when available.

Site details

The detail page contains the site URL, site name, access token, setup guide, how-to video, and image-page link. Copy the site name and token from here during setup.

Regenerate an access token

The token authenticates spreadsheet updates. You can regenerate it from the detail page. The previous token stops working, so update Authentication in the spreadsheet as well.

Share or delete

Copy the public URL or prepared share text from the detail page. You can also delete the site, but the same site name may not be available again afterward.

5. Working with the spreadsheet

SpreadSite content is organized across several sheets. This section explains the role of each one.

Configuration

Choose which sections to display and which template each uses. Select Hide to omit a section. The sheet also includes previews and anchor IDs. Navigation supports template1–3, Crystal, and Aurora; most other sections support template1–5, Crystal, and Aurora.

Reorder sections in Configuration

Move the Top, Main, Cards, Access, Bottom, and Contact rows to change their display order, then sync all sheets. Navigation, Header, and Footer have fixed positions.

Movable and fixed rows

Background colors and cell notes identify movable and fixed sections. Movable rows control page order. Fixed rows preserve the site’s basic structure.

Design

Set the global font, base color, main color, and accent color. Available fonts include Sans Serif, Shippori Mincho, Klee One, Noto Sans JP, M PLUS 1p, Roboto, and Orbitron. Colors come from cell background colors, not merely a color code typed into a cell.

Navigation

Configure the logo image URL, title, and the labels and destinations for two buttons. External URLs should begin with https://. Page anchors can use IDs shown in Configuration.

Header, Top, Bottom, and Footer sheets

These sheets contain the text, images, and links used by their corresponding sections. The available fields vary by template, so use the preview and cell notes as a guide.

Main and Cards sheets

Enter a title, subtitle, description, and image URL for each row. Card rows can also include a link. Row order becomes display order after syncing.

Access and Contact sheets

Access templates can display an address, postal code, directions, phone, and email; the map uses the address. Pro users can enable Contact and position it through Configuration.

Settings

Configure the SEO title, description, icon, and custom domain. SEO values affect search and social sharing.

Authentication

Enter the site name and access token. Site updates cannot be sent if these values are incorrect. Update the sheet whenever you regenerate the token.

6. Using the SpreadSite add-on

These commands are available under Extensions > SpreadSite in Google Sheets.

Sync all sheets

Send all spreadsheet content to the site. Use this when automatic sync is disabled or a change is not visible. The update may take a few seconds.

Enable automatic sync

Automatically sends spreadsheet edits to the site. This is convenient for small changes after publishing.

Disable automatic sync

Stops automatic updates. Disable it while making larger edits or preparing content that should not be public yet.

Initialize a template

Creates the required sheets and sample content so each column is easy to understand. Be careful: initialization can overwrite existing content.

Repair and update sheets

Updates headers, validation, notes, preview formulas, and Configuration guidance while preserving other entered content and section order. Obsolete settings fields are removed.

Configure a custom domain

On Pro or higher, enter a domain in Settings and run custom-domain setup. Add the displayed DNS records at your domain provider. Propagation can take time. Use the removal command, when available, to disconnect it.

Help

If you are unsure what to do, check add-on Help, the dashboard guide, or this documentation.

7. Using images

To display an image, enter its URL in the appropriate spreadsheet field.

Enter an image URL

Enter a publicly accessible direct image URL in an Image link field. Confirm that the URL opens the image itself in a browser.

Upload through SpreadSite

Pro users can upload under Menu > Images. Copy the generated URL into an Image link field. The Images page also lets you copy URLs and delete uploads.

Plan limits

SpreadSite uploads are unavailable on Free and available on Pro. Public external image URLs can be used on any plan. Check the Images or Pricing page for current upload limits.

Conversion and optimization

Uploads are converted and optimized as WebP. HEIC/HEIF files are converted through JPEG before WebP. SVG files remain SVG, but scripts, external references and unsupported elements are rejected for safety. The server also validates the image data. Uploaded files are limited to 4 MiB, SVG files to 512 KiB, and total image pixels to 40 million.

When an image does not appear

Check for an incorrect URL, access restrictions, or a link to a web page instead of an image. The URL must open the image directly.

8. Publish, review, and update

After syncing the spreadsheet, review the actual published site.

Find the site URL

The detail page shows the public URL, normally sitename.spread-site.com. A configured custom domain on Pro or higher can also display the site.

Review after publishing

Check desktop and mobile. Confirm heading lengths, images, button destinations, SEO title, and description.

Update a published site

Continue editing and syncing the spreadsheet after publication. If you use manual sync, run Sync all sheets after editing.

Reorder a published site

Move supported rows in Configuration and sync again. Top, Main, Cards, Access, Bottom, and Contact can move; Navigation, Header, and Footer remain fixed.

Use a custom domain

On Pro, enter the domain in Settings and run custom-domain setup. Add the provided DNS records and allow time for propagation. A domain already assigned to another site cannot be used.

9. Account, billing, and deletion

Manage account information, sign-in settings, billing, and account deletion.

Manage account information

Open Account from the header menu to manage your profile and sign-in settings, including login methods and registered email addresses.

Sign out

Use Sign out at the top of the Account page. Always sign out after using a shared device.

Manage billing and plans

Open Billing from the menu to review a paid subscription, payment method, and billing information.

Delete your account

Use account deletion in the profile-management interface. If you have a paid plan, review its status in Billing first. Contact contact@spread-site.com if you cannot find the deletion option.

Before deletion

Deleting the account can remove access to the dashboard and site management. Review any information and spreadsheets you need first.

10. Plans

Choose a plan for your needs. See Pricing for the latest price and included features.

Free

Includes free templates, a spread-site.com subdomain, updates from Google Sheets, and one site. The site displays the SpreadSite logo credit. SpreadSite image uploads, Contact, and custom domains are unavailable.

Pro

Includes image uploads, removal of the SpreadSite credit, Contact, up to three sites, and custom domains. It is intended for business use.

Ultra

Ultra is in development. Details will be announced on the Pricing page when available.

Plan and payment management

Open Billing after signing in to review plans and payments. You can also select a plan from Pricing.

11. Troubleshooting

Checks for sites that do not display, changes that do not sync, or authentication errors.

Check the access token

Verify the site name and token in Authentication. If you regenerated the token, enter the new one in the spreadsheet.

The sheet format looks wrong

Run Repair and update sheets if columns, notes, validation, or previews are incorrect. It preserves content where possible and keeps the Configuration row order.

Changes are not visible

Run Sync all sheets, wait a few seconds, and reload the browser.

The layout is broken or content is missing

Check that the selected template matches the fields you filled in. Different templates use different fields.

Section order did not change

After moving rows, sync all sheets. Only Top, Main, Cards, Access, Bottom, and Contact are reorderable.

An image is missing

Confirm the URL opens an image directly. Google Drive sharing URLs may not work as direct images. For SpreadSite uploads, use the generated image URL.

Custom domain is not active

DNS propagation can take time. Check the domain in Settings, the add-on result, and DNS records.

Support

Check the dashboard guide and this documentation. If the issue remains, contact contact@spread-site.com.
