I Combined Spreadsheets and Templates to Reduce Update Work
I built SpreadSite after finding updates to my own website burdensome. Even small information changes involved administration and display adjustments.
I created a workflow for editing content in Google Sheets and publishing it through templates. My aim was to bring routine changes closer to editing a table.
What Troubled Me in Running My Own Site
I previously ran my portfolio on WordPress. Finding a page, editing it, and checking its display accumulated into work that discouraged routine updates.
My site was also compromised, requiring recovery work. That experience prompted me to reconsider my own setup; it does not establish a universal security comparison.
Give Content and Appearance Different Roles
I chose spreadsheets for copy and prices, with templates supporting presentation. The SpreadSite add-on sends the sheet content to the site. (SpreadSite: Product guide)
The workflow leaves room for checking information and links. The site owner still decides what should be public.
Try editing and syncing hours, menus, or event dates. Check the published page to assess the everyday update workflow.
My focus includes continuing to keep information current after the initial site is complete.
