Complete Small, Usable Results within the Larger Plan
A large project needs incremental results people can use, alongside smaller tasks. Explain how each result contributes to the overall goal.
Independent screens and components may still be unusable together. Plan a coherent slice and the dependencies needed to make it work.
Choose a Usable Increment
For an event site, a first result could let visitors find event details and signup instructions. An isolated heading or disconnected form cannot test that journey.
Scrum requires a usable Increment. (The Scrum Guide 2020) Use that principle when defining your own completion conditions.
Make Dependencies and Shared Components Visible
Publishing prices depends on approval of both the prices and their release. A schedule containing only production work hides these waits.
Assign ownership for shared information and components. Agree change contacts and an integration test date.
Reassess the Goal after Each Stage
After release, review use and enquiries to decide what comes next. Assess whether people achieve their goal alongside completed work.
State the available scope and update date on the public site. Label planned capabilities separately from released ones.
To define a testable user goal, see writing user stories.
